Minami Deutsch/Villalog/Ippio Payo

Thursday, 26. April

MINAMI DEUTSCH was formed by Kyotaro Miula (guitar, vocals, synthesizer) in Tokyo in 2014. Their sound is influenced by both their love for Krautrock legends such as Can and Neu!, and the band members being self-professed “repetition freaks” who heavily listen to minimal techno.

The music proceeds straightforwardly with the Motorik beat (Hammer beat), devised by Klaus Dinger (Kraftwerk, Neu!), as its central axis. Humorous, yet bizarre Japanese lyrics are whispered over a hard, cold beat that is maniacally repeated, creating a pleasant ambience of electronic pulses drifting in space. Sharp guitar tones reminiscent of Michael Karoli (Can) occasionally explode into fuzz distortion, on the verge of collapse.

IPPIO PAYO is the alter ego of Josip Pavlov - Munich-based musician, composer and defining member of bands such as Majmoon, Das Weiße Pferd, The Grexits , Zwinkelman or NAQ. His work in film and theatre further underlines his multi-instrumental knack.
IPPIO PAYO: All Depends On Nature is Josip’s first solo release.

The album was recorded in 2016 with Tom Wu on drums in Munich’s “Westend Studio” and was produced by Tobias “Hopsing” Laemmert (Protein, Alien Transistor Records).
The instrumental compositions for stringed instruments blend to a polyrhythmic mesh. Hypnotic and narrative is its continuum - its very own course of time occurs and along with it, its very own space. Motif variations trigger a Kuleschov-effect and the implied space of origin transforms and wanders from one show to the next.
