//DEUTSCH:

Moderation: Gerald Nestler (TIMtheoriesinmind | artist, researcher, writer)

PERFORMANCES:

Olha Popova, 33 Sinne.

Elisabeth Samsonow, Elektra Schock. Motivation und Revolution. Null Trauma.

Sara Lanner, INWEAVE, 2022, Performance

Bitte warm anziehen!

22:00: FEMME DMC LIVE mit Aelize, Tylah, Elav, Bex, W1ze, Dacid Go8lin - hosted by Dacid Go8lin

23:00-02:00: FEMME DMC DJ Set feat. Zola

Wiener Zeitung:

//ENGLISH:

UNEQUIVOCAL is part of the PEACE CULTURE panel

»The Times they are a-changin’…« apparently in more tense and polarized directions, sometimes followed by vicious, violent or even deadly consequences. Whether on a local or global, micro or macro level, as we look at the intertwined social, environmental and political issues of the future, there is an increasing sense of powerlessness. As cultural activists and institutions, we are confident that art and culture have the potential to open up emancipatory spaces for action and thus influence social processes. We see the need to discuss our challenges and to collectively develop strategies for possible solutions in order to find ways through these difficult times of war, climate change and social division. In exchange with international and local colleagues we want to explore perspectives and invite all interested people to discuss with us! The discussion is embedded in a varied live music (Femme DMC) and performance (Unequivocal) programme.

Curated by Ursula Maria Probst

Faris Cuchi Gezahegn, Mzamo Nondlwana, Sara Lanner, Olha Popova, Elisabeth von Samsonow, Julischka Stengele

UNEQUIVOCAL is a multi-part, participatory and co-creative performance project, an open platform for building practical and energetic transdisciplinary trust and knowledge that transforms the FLUCC_WANNE into the FLUCC/OTRON.

The stimulus is the complexity of contemporary realities and how this calls for new practices and emancipatory aesthetics in our cultural work and artistic production. The question of their representability in art is also a question of the imaginability of alternative narratives and solutions that grant new possibilities to the hitherto non-represented. We are currently experiencing spatiotemporal struggles that have become more intensely tangible and palpable through the contradictions of the instantaneous situation. How can new forms of relational work and multilingualism be activated through bodily engagement? Which performative practices make people want to participate? What do fluid identity, cartographies of multiple temporalities, eco- and intersectionality, and responsivity mean in our lives and everyday encounters?

Under the choreography of the performance artists Faris Cuchi Gezahegn and Mzamo Nondlwana, Sara Lanner, Elisabeth von Samsonow, Julischka Stengele we want to interact and train, become part of a political action, initiate future collaborations or just relax. Elisabeth von Samsonow invites you to revolution training. Sara Lanner interrogates the effects of support, system, protection and power spaces on our biographies through the method of participatory disentanglement. An artistic-performative critique of “gym culture” and the ways it exposes a politics of desire and visibility within the larger LGBTQIA* community is provided by Faris Cuchi Gezahegn and Mzamo Nondlwana. Julischka Stengele takes us to breezy Prater heights with unexpected twists.

KEYNOTE LECTURE:

Udi Edelman (Center for Digital Art, Holon)

Keynote speech by Udi Edelman, Center of Digital Arts Holon (ISR), who will speak from the practice of continuous cultural work in an increasingly socially charged field.

PANEL TALK & DISCUSSION:

Yana Gryniv, Michael Podgorac, Dafina Sylejmani, Ksenia Yurkova, Udi Edelman, Elisabeth von Samsonow, Gerald Nestler (Moderation)

Based on this, we invite to a panel talk with Yana Gryniv (Artist, Curator), Michael Podgorac (Brunnenpassage, D/Arts | arts and culture activist), Elisabeth von Samsonow (Akademie der bildenden Künste Wien | artist, philosopher), Dafina Sylejmani (UN Ambassador of Peace Kosovo, FEMME DMC | musician, performer), Ksenia Yurkova (AIR-im Silo, Artists at Risk | artist), to talk together about emancipatory, participatory cultural work, its potentials, visions and limitations.
Moderation: Gerald Nestler (TIMtheoriesinmind | artist, researcher, writer)

PERFORMANCES:

Olha Popova, 33 senses. Composed during the occupation and under fire in Enerhodar, Ukraine, curated by Yana Gryniv, 2022, Piano Concerto / Performance.

Olha is a Ukrainian composer. Together with her family she came from Enerhodar 3 weeks ago. Being under occupation, watching her native city being destroyed, she found her way to survive. She didn’t hide in a bunker. For 33 days she had been composing and playing the piano. Under the shelling and at the times of grave silence, the music was born. Thoughts and emotions, feelings were transformed into a series of piano pieces. Each of them is an artwork born out of pain and together they make a story of survival, a story told through the music. She left everything in her home town of Enerhodar, but took only the dearest things to her heart, - her notes. She packed them carefully into a suitcase. The very same suitcase which is part of her performance now. When I met Olha I was shocked by her story and her being so full of life and positive energy. Living under the conditions when you don’t know what is going to happen next moment and whether your family will survive, having lost everything, people are able to create art, to enjoy every minute of life and have strong confidence in the peaceful future. (Text: Yana Gryniv)

Elisabeth von Samsonow, Elektra Shock. Motivation and Revolution, Zero Trauma, an infernocentric action,2022, performance

The action explores through word, image and gesture (which can be hyperexpressive) the interval between rest and movement in order to create a training formate for a revolution. The idea of expression as an outdated artistic category comes gets likerenewed and refreshed within the context of the performance. A mixture of listlessness and hyperactivity, which is predicted, can be discharged in a new way. The tolls for this are simple: one takes up a geometric position, as true to the letter as possible, and then “throws the leaves off oneself,” like a tree in late autumn. This can be done alone, in pairs, and with many. The machinic effect that results can in no way be confused with disciplinary phenomena, but is a representation of the transitions caused by thought.

Sara Lanner, INWEAVE, 2022, performance

For those who enter the space, it has a function. Where do spaces appear in our biography as support systems, protective spaces, or power spaces, and how have they shaped our personalities? Places, structures and their histories interweave in this performance with fiberglass, ribbons, gestures and rock. They are unbraided by the audience - not least to pose the question of how we can subvert (undermine) social conventions in search of care or social justice, and thus bring about change.

Faris Cuchi Gezahegn und Mzamo Nondlwana, OPERATION DOLLZZZ, 2022, performance

An artistic performative critique on “Gym culture” and the way in which it detects politics of desirability. The artists Faris Cuchi and Mzamo Nondlwana will sculpt soulful, dazzling, and subversively gym-themed performances with the intention of taking up space centering aesthetic of Trans/NB/GNC and femmes bodies.

Quote:
Before Sylejmani came to Austria fourteen years ago, rap was out of the question. The war dominated everyday life. She took her first lyrical steps in Austria. With an Albanian rap group that consisted mainly of men. “But that didn’t work out so well.” Therefore, it was clear to her: something new had to come along. “In October 2015, I launched Femme DMC. Just to see how many women in rap there actually are in Vienna,” says the petite woman, whose rapper name is “Dacid Go8lin.”

Self-determination, independence - with simultaneous togetherness. That is particularly important to the artist. And apparently the event itself is already bearing fruit. For example, Sylejmani knows about a hundred women who actively rap as a result.
